Printable cake toppers

Printable christening cake toppers

A dove, a cross or an angel, the baby’s name and the date. That is the whole brief, and it fits on a topper 12 cm wide.

Choose a christening design, type the baby’s name and the date, and print it at 100% scale on 80–100 lb cover cardstock (216–270 gsm). Cut a hair inside the printed line, tape a skewer to the back and put the topper on the cake just before it is served. For a standard 8 inch (20 cm) cake, aim for a topper 12–15 cm (5–6 in) wide.

Christening or baptism: which symbols

In English the words overlap: “christening” is the name-giving ceremony, “baptism” the sacrament, and most families use whichever their church uses. The symbols are shared, and each says something slightly different:

SymbolWhat it stands forColours that suit it
DoveThe Holy Spirit, peace. The most neutral choice for any denomination.White and soft gold, or white on pale blue or blush
CrossFaith itself. Simple and formal, reads well from a distance.Gold or silver on white
Guardian angelProtection of the child. Warmer and more personal.Cream, blush, light gold
Noah’s arkA playful choice for a toddler’s baptism, still clearly religious.Pastels, soft rainbow
Wheat or olive branchGrowth and blessing, often paired with a cross.Green and gold

Wording ideas for a boy or a girl

  • God bless Oliver: short, the name is the headline.
  • Baptised · 12 April 2027: the date under the name, smaller.
  • Amelia’s Christening: the classic, works at any size.
  • Welcome to God’s family, Noah: for a family that wants a verse-like line.
  • In the name of the Father…: only if it fits on two short lines; long text shrinks fast.
  • Little lamb · Leo: gentle, good with a lamb or ark design.

Names over eight letters read better on two lines than in a smaller font. If the family uses a middle name in the ceremony, keep it for the cake card rather than the topper.

Questions about christening toppers

What is the difference between a christening and a baptism cake topper?

Only the word. The designs, symbols and wording work for both; use the term your church and family use.

Can I add a photo of the baby?

Yes, in the app, with Topper Pro. Adding your own photo is a Pro feature; the christening designs and the name field work on the free version.

What paper should I print on?

80–100 lb cover cardstock (216–270 gsm), matte or pearl. Plain copy paper bends as soon as it meets frosting. The best paper for cake toppers guide compares the options.

Should the topper be printed on both sides?

If the cake stands in the middle of the room, yes: print the design twice and tape the two cut-outs back to back around the skewer, so the name reads from every side.
